28.
The liberation day marks the end of genocide and the defeat of the government that executed it on July 4, 1994.
According to the statement from the Commission, this year’s theme is titled “Together we prosper.”
The celebration of liberation day is an opportunity for “Rwandans to reflect on how far we have come as a nation and to share Rwanda’s liberation story, the journey of unity and reconciliation, and the country’s ongoing renewal and vision for a brighter future.
“Rwanda’s Renaissance is conceived around these principles: Unity, Accountability, and Thinking Big.”
It further stated that President Paul Kagame was committed to consolidating and sustaining the journey towards self-reliance by ensuring holistic economic emancipation, as well as effective and accountable systems of governance by 2050.
The celebrations at the national level were held in Rubavu District, Northwest province, with the inauguration of Rugerero Model Village, home to 120 vulnerable families, most of them being victims of the flooding last May.
The project unveiling, as has become customary on each liberation day marked, was part of the government’s efforts to improve the socio-economic lives of Rwandans as a way of continuing to liberate them.
