Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has heaped praise on Cyriel Dessers, extolling the qualities the striker will bring to the Glasgow Rangers squad, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Scottish club recently secured the services of the former Cremonese man for €5m, with an additional €1.5m tied to performance-related add-ons.
Rohr, who handed Dessers his international debut in a friendly against Tunisia in October 2020, holds the striker in high regard.
Dessers is no stranger to European football, he finished as the top scorer in the inaugural Europa Conference League, netting an impressive 10 goals. Additionally, he clinched the golden boot in the Dutch Eredivisie during the 2019/2020 season.
In an interview with Daily Record, Rohr said, “Cyriel Dessers is an all-round striker and a player who is perfect for the modern game.
“He is very mobile, possesses great speed, and is strong and powerful in the air. Not only is he comfortable on the ball, but he can also score goals with both feet. Furthermore, he demonstrates great discipline on and off the pitch.”
Rohr also believes that Dessers would have earned more international caps if it weren’t for a period of club inactivity that made him unavailable for selection. Nevertheless, Dessers made a positive impression during the team’s training camp in Austria, showcasing his talents and professionalism.
Currently, Dessers boasts four caps for the Eagles, with his most recent appearance occurring in a friendly against Algeria in September 2022.
Dessers, who scored seven goals in 29 appearances despite Cremonese’s relegation from Serie A last season, will aim to replicate his goalscoring prowess in Glasgow. Although his form in the Serie A was not prolific, his impressive reputation in Holland suggests he has the potential to thrive in the Scottish Premiership.
