Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho has been linked with a surprise move to Nottingham Forest this summer, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Iheanacho returned to pre-season training at Seagrave last Friday, after having an extra few days off following his involvement in Nigeria’s international games in June. The striker is one of a few players who have just a year remaining on their contract at the King Power Stadium.
According to French journalist Santi Aouna, Forest has ‘opened talks’ to sign Iheanacho this summer. He also adds that Steve Cooper’s side want to ‘close the deal in the coming days’.
This means the club is prepared to cash in instead of losing him for nothing this time next year.
Aouna, however, did not reveal how much Leicester City are looking for the player, they paid a fee of £25m to Man City when completing the signing six years ago.
Iheanacho has played a total of 206 games, scoring 55 goals and providing 33 assists.
Should Iheanahco leave this summer, it could see City step up interest in Joel Piroe at Swansea City. The club has been heavily linked with the striker this summer but could face competition from a number of other clubs.
The Dutchman is a proven goalscorer at Championship level, scoring 19 league goals for Swansea last season. Like Iheanacho, the 23-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract.
