The Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry of Health, Dr Mohammed Gama, has said that the bidding for the conversion of the Shiroro Hotel to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Teaching Hospital will be transparent.
No fewer than 11 firms have submitted their bid for the project.
The move to convert the hotel was announced by Governor Umaru Bago during his inauguration, where he revealed that since the hotel had not been functional for years, it would be converted to a hospital to boost the health system in the state.
Gama said, “The work ahead of us is a massive project. The idea of open competition is to ensure transparency as well as fairness in the bid process. We want both local and international companies to compete favorably for the project at hand.”
The permanent secretary of the state Public Procurement Board, Shehu Jibril, explained that the state government had a target to shortlist no fewer than six firms after the pre-qualification exercise. He said the state government had adopted a two-stage bidding process to ascertain the competence and qualification of the companies bidding for the contracts.
