The Super Falcons contingent departs the Gold Coast on Sunday (today) for their designated camp base in Brisbane ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The former African champions, who spent 15 days intensifying their preparation on the Gold Coast, will be lodged at the Sofitel Brisbane Central, a team official confirmed to PUNCH Sports Extra.
The Sofitel Brisbane Central is a five-star hotel located on Turbot Street and it’s only 19km from the Brisbane Airport.
Its the only hotel in Australia with high+performance gym, accessible for high level sporting teams like the Falcons.
Also, it’s s the largest hotel for events and meetings in Australia, according to its website. It also features 416 luxury rooms and suites, a restaurant, outdoor pool and spa.
The focus of the team will now be on their opening fixture at the World Cup against reigning Olympic queens Canada, on July 21.
The West Africans will also face co-hosts Australia and the Republic of Ireland in Group B.
Randy Waldrum’s team, who defeated Australian side Queensland Lions FC 8-1 in a pre-World Cup friendly Saturday, will be aiming to continue their impressive form at the start of the tournament.
Barcelona Femeni star, Asisat Oshoala, bagged a brace in the rout, with other goals scored by Ifeoma Onumonu, Toni Payne, Halimat Ayinde, Rasheedat Ajibade, Uchenna Kanu and Gift Monday.
