According to reports in the Netherlands, Ajax defender, Calvin Bassey, is keen on remaining at the club despite speculations linking him with a return to England this summer.
Voetbal International reports that Bassey is not eager to leave Ajax this summer because he feels he has unfinished business in the Netherlands and would only think about a departure if the Amsterdam club inform him that he’s surplus to requirements, which is not the case as of now.
Brighton & Hove and Fulham have both been linked with a move for the Leicester City academy product.
The Seagulls are considering signing Bassey as an alternative to Chelsea central defender Levi Colwill while the interest from Fulham is more concrete, with the Cottagers recently launching a bid worth £15m for the former Glasgow Rangers player.
After enduring a tough end to last season, the 23-year-old featured in his first pre-season game for 45 minutes as Ajax thrashed Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 at Sportpark De Toekomst (Amsterdam-Duivendrecht) on Tuesday.
Exactly a year ago, Bassey became the most expensive Nigerian defender in history, overtaking Super Eagles legend Taribo West, when he moved to Ajax for a guaranteed fee of €23m.
He was one of the first names on the teamsheet in the first half of last season but lost his spot in the starting XI after the dismissal of Alfred Schreuder.
