The police in Lagos, on Thursday, arraigned a 28-year-old lady, Charity Iroakazi, for allegedly having in her possession 36 berets with insignia of the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra.
The artisan, who resides in Ojo, Lagos, was arraigned before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja.
The police, in the charges, accused her of conspiracy and unlawful possession of IPOB berets.
The prosecutor, Inspector Samuel Mishozunnu, told the court that Iroakazi was arrested on June 16 at Mosalasi Bus Stop, Satellite, Lagos.
Mishozunnu said Iroakazi was arrested after policemen on patrol intercepted a motorcyclist conveying a big black nylon, in which were found 36 berets of different colours bearing IPOB insignia on them.
The prosecutor said upon being interrogated, the motorcyclist said the berets belonged to Iroakazi and took policemen to her residence, leading to her arrest.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate, Mrs Folasade Hughes, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Hughes adjourned the case till August 2 for mention.
