Ajax defender, Calvin Bassey, is edging closer to completing a switch to Fulham in the English Premier League as he will undergo medical with the club in the USA where the Cottagers are having their pre-season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
According to reports in the Netherlands by Algemeen Dagblad, Bassey is definitely leaving Ajax Amsterdam after agreeing a multi-year contract with the Cottagers.
Subject to the medical, he will put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Fulham.
The Londoners were in the market for a left-footed central defender, with Bassey and Ghana international Mohammed Salisu the options being considered, but the Nigerian has been favoured over the Southampton star for the position.
Bassey was left out of Ajax’s traveling squad to Germany for a training camp and did not participate in the friendly against Anderlecht, which more or less confirmed that a transfer was on the cards.
Fulham had already agreed a fee of €21m with Ajax Amsterdam for the Leicester City academy product.
The 23-year-old is set to leave the 36-time Dutch champions after playing in 39 matches for them, scoring one goal and notching five assists.
Fulham are in the United States for the Premier League Summer Series and will take on Aston Villa and Chelsea in their next two games before returning to the English capital to continue their pre-season preparations.
