The Lagos State Government has urged workers at construction sites across the state to prioritise the safety and living conditions of their children.
The General Manager, Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, Kehinde Osinaike, who gave the advice during an enforcement exercise at Eti-Osa, Lekki and environs, charged the workers to desist from exposing their wards to risk around construction sites.
The General Manager frowned upon construction site workers who live with their children on sites, saying that such children are often at risk of sexual abuse, increased risk of social exclusion, and deprived access to healthcare and education, a statement said on Thursday.
Osinaike urged all labourers who live close to construction sites to “ensure adequate protection of their wards from all forms of exploitation that can harm children’s welfare.”
The Director of Monitoring and Compliance Unit, Iyiola Olarinde, who was with the GM on the enforcement exercise, said all children had the right to a better standard of living that would assist in their physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development.
