The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in the State.
Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, said that the suspect had been on the Command’s wanted list for the past two years for thuggery and causing grievous hurt adding that he committed the crime with two others who are still at large.
He said that luck ran out on the suspect when a police patrol team raided a black spot located in a suburb of the Bauchi metropolis and arrested him.
“On Saturday 22nd July 2023 at about 6.30 pm, Police operatives attached to ‘C’ Divisional Headquarters while on a visibility policing patrol and identified and raided a black spot located at Sabon Layi, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis which led to the arrest of one Muhammad Abdullahi alias Luwawu, male, of the same address.
“He has been on the Police watch list since 2021 for alleged Criminal Conspiracy, thug, and thuggery, causing grievous hurt, and Attempt to Commit an Offence to wit Culpable Homicide.
“Sometimes in 2021, the suspect criminally conspired with Sani Danfada, male, Manu Maidawa, and two others now at large, all of the same address, while armed with machetes and other deadly weapons attacked and stabbed one Mubarak Abdullahi, male (25) of Unguwan Sarakuna area on his head and cut-off his left hand from the articulatio-radiocarpea.
“Investigation uncovered that the suspects committed the alleged offence. Muhammad Abdulahi confessed to committing the offence during interrogation,” he said.
He added that efforts are being intensified to track down the remaining suspects, after which they would be charged to court for prosecution accordingly.
Similarly, the Police Spokesman said that detectives attached to ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters arrested six suspected thugs of the dreaded Sara-Suka group.
He said that they were arrested on Sunday 23rd July 2023 at about 7.30 pm while raiding a criminal hideout situated at Nasarawan Madina Quarters Bauchi.
According to him, the detectives observed an unusual noise in a cave-like part of the area and immediately cordoned off the area and arrested the six suspected thugs.
He gave the names of the suspects as Babawuro Mohammad (20), Nasiru Usman (19), Sadiq Musa (21), Hamza Ahmadu (19), Sadiq Ahmed (18), Umar Shayibu (21), all males of Madina Quarters and Dutsen Warinje areas of the Bauchi metropolis respectively.
Wakil said that preliminary investigation divulged that “the suspects are into armed robbery and acts of thuggery.”
He said that exhibits recovered from them are one long knife and some dry leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa popularly known as Indian hemp adding that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime.
Efforts have been intensified, according to him, to apprehend their remaining fleeing accomplices, after which they would be charged to court to face the wrath of the law after the investigation.
