The Ogun State Police Command, Vigilante and community leaders in the state on Saturday urged members of the Area Community Development Committee, Itesiwaju Omu Arogun of the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, to embrace peace and be security conscious.
This is as the ACDC chairman, Mr Yemi Adebisi, used the opportunity to seek the intervention of the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, over the bad state of a road in the community.
They spoke at a security summit themed ‘Declaring total war against crime and social ills,’ held opposite Arigbawonwo junction, in the Mowe area of the state on Saturday.
PUNCH Metro reports that 16 community development associations represented include Ifesowapo 1, Ifesowapo 2, Unity Omu Arire 1, Unity Omu Arire 2, Eagle, Graceland Community, Graceland Estate, Unity Daluwon, Daluwon, Harmony, Asso, Paradise, Topview, Topland, Ideal Habitat and God’s Favour.
Speaking during the summit, the Divisional Police Officer, Mowe Police Station, CSP Folakemi Afeniforo, said the community members should cooperate with their leaders and security agencies to end crime in the community.
“One of the factors that guide the community is love. We should know ourselves in the community. When you know yourselves, any other strangers can easily be identified. Love is essential,” Afeniforo said.
On his part, Yemi Adebisi, in a separate interview with our correspondent, revealed that the crux of the programme was to enlighten the people on how to live peacefully and be security conscious.
Adebisi, who also decried the deplorable state of the Mowe-Ofada Road and called for urgent action by the state government.
Speaking also, the Zonal Commander for Vigilante Service of Ogun State, ‘So Safe’ Corp, Owode Egba Division, Jimoh Razak, urged community members to pay their security levies.
Also speaking, the Chief of the Daluwon community, Chief Tajudeen Popoola, appreciated the DPO and VSO for the words of enlightenment that they shared with them.
