The Olukere of Odo Oja Ikere Ekiti in Ekiti State, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin, on Saturday said the local production of petroleum products remained the solution to the challenges facing the economy.
Obasoyin, who said that palliatives were not sustainable, urged the Federal Government to use the funds saved from the removal of the fuel subsidy to fix the nation’s refineries.
Speaking at Ikere Ekiti during the grand finale of the 2023 Olosunta Festival, the Olukere said, “If the government said it had saved over N1trn from subsidy removal in two months, let’s continue to save for like six months, then use the money on refineries.
“We should do what is necessary and what I think is necessary is build refineries, repair the ones that are not in good shape so that you will not continue to give palliatives every time.
“The way to go which will reach all Nigerians and better the country’s economy, create job opportunities and wealth for citizens and country is for the refineries to work. Let us refine our crude oil here. Let us determine the price of our crude oil here.” he said.
The monarch lauded Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, who he said had made a difference in governance in his few months in office but advised the governor to be cautious so that selfish civil servants and politicians would not distract him.
