The Ogun State Police Command has said that a man, Henry Adeyemi, who allegedly engaged security men at the City Of David Estate, Shimawa area of the state in a scuffle last week, has been charged to court.
PUNCH Metro reported on Friday that some landlords of the estate developed by Adron Homes complained about alleged harassment from security guards engaged by the estate developers.
A video of the incident obtained by our correspondent showed Adeyemi being forced into a security van by security officials who invited policemen from the Shimawa Division to pick him up on Wednesday.
A landlord, who introduced herself as the Assistant Secretary of the Residents Association in the estate, Efosa Irhabor, had alleged that the security men manning the estate’s gate attacked Adeyemi who retaliated, leading to a fight.
Irhabor said other residents followed Adeyemi to the police station and that he was refused bail.
But Adron Homes had in reaction said some landlords were only allegedly causing trouble in the estate.
The Executive Director, Public Affairs and International Relations, Adron Homes and Properties Limited, Oluwakemi Osude-Laniyan, said, “We have these people, less than 10 of them, causing problems in that estate. Suddenly they formed an association which we cannot go against.
“What we realise they have been trying to do is to bring themselves together under the umbrella of the association. They are claiming to be the owners of the estate. How can that be possible?”
However, in a statement made available to our correspondent on Friday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the issue was about enforcing security rules in the estate “that everyone coming in and out of the estate must exercise patience for security protocols by opening the driver’s trunk.”
The PPRO said following the disagreement, the security men manning the gate stopped Adeyemi from entering the estate which led to an outburst and commotion.
“One of the estate security officers alerted the Shimawa Divisional Police Officer, SP Funsho Bamigboye, who went to the scene.
“The DPO arrested Adeyemi. The DPO has charged the matter to court since the Adron Homes executives prefer to approach the court to decisively deal with harassment and disobedience to their estate security rules,” Odutola added.
