Osun State Boundaries Commission has warned residents of Iwo, Ileogbo, and their monarchs, against disregard for its order, saying the law would not spare any act of violence over the land dispute involving the two towns.
The chairman of the Commission, Justice Moshood Adeigbe (retd), while addressing parties in the matter on Wednesday during its sitting in Osogbo, said the order restraining both Oluwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi and Olu of Ileogbo, Oba Habeeb Agbaje, as well as their subjects from the disputed land still subsists and must be respected.
Oba Agbaje and four others had dragged Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Akanbi and two others before the Commission, asking that they be declared the owners of the Okesaji area.
Addressing the Commission, Counsel to the petitioners, Muhydeen Adeoye, alleged that despite the order that parties should maintain the status quo, some people claiming to have been permitted by Oba Akanbi had proceeded to the disputed land to work.
Adeoye, who also presented pictorial evidence before the Commission, insisted that the order of the panel was flouted and disclosed readiness to file contempt against the respondents.
Responding to the petitioners’ counsel claim, counsel to the respondents, Fatima Adesina, said Oluwo did not act in disregard of the Commission’s order, stressing that the status quo before the order was given was maintained.
In his ruling, Justice Adeigbe urged Adeoye to apply for the necessary process to enforce the existing order of the panel and warned that disregard for order would not be tolerated.
Adeigbe also implored counsel in the matter to rein in their clients to prevent a breakdown of law and order and adjourned the matter till September 13.
