The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the massive defection of its members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The Ondo State PDP Chairman, Fatai Adams, explained that the party is not worried because those defectors are doing it to seek their daily bread or political relevance.
He said after a loss of a significant election like the 2023 presidential, it is normal for people to defect from a political party, so what is happening in the Ondo PDP is not strange.
Adams told pressmen in Akure on Tuesday that the party’s leadership is optimistic that defectors will come back into the party.
The Ondo PDP chairman, however, questioned the contributions of those defecting to the ruling APC to the party during the electioneering period.
He said, “Some of them (PDP members) are on a voyage to seek political relevance or daily bread, and when it is not forthcoming, they will come back.
“What is happening is not strange. When a party loses a big election like the presidential election, such defection is bound to happen. Some are leaving; some are coming in. That is politics.
“We have no cause to worry over the defection. What was the contribution of those defectors in the last elections? We will bounce back in the state.”
Adam’s also revealed that the PDP had conducted its primaries to elect candidates for next year’s local government elections in the state.
He said the candidates for the councillorship and chairmanship emerged in transparent elections monitored by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC).
