According to Mr Patrick Ikaba, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Bauchi State Command, the overall number of crashes on roads has decreased in the first and second quarters of 2023.
On Thursday, he told DAILY POST at his office that the command has decreased the number of road accidents in the state as a result of new methods implemented in the sector.
He went on to say that in the first quarter of 2023, the command reported 91 road crashes, including 29 fatalities, 61 serious accidents, and one minor accident.
In the second quarter of 2023, there were 68 road crashes, with 22 fatalities, 45 major accidents, and one minor accident.
”You can believe with me that with these statistics, road crashes have reduced drastically in our State,” he said.
The Sector Commander, on the other hand, stated his resolve to see the development through and highlighted the importance of mounting Speed Limiting Devices on commercial vehicles to prevent over speeding, which is the leading cause of road accidents.
”We’ll collaborate with our sister agencies in this regard to put pressure on this policy with a view to saving lives and property of our citizens,“ he added.
The Commander said on the travelers’ manifest that any commercial vehicle traveling the road without a passengers’ manifest will be penalized.
“Commercial drivers are hereby warned to desist from flying the roads without manifest as the command would not leave any stone unturned in punishing offenders,” he declared.
He urged drivers to constantly follow traffic rules and regulations in order to save lives.
While urging parents to stop giving automobiles to their children under the age of 18, he warned that any kid arrested would face serious consequences.
