The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the transfer of the case file of the alleged killers of a butcher, Usman Buda, over alleged blasphemous comments in Sokoto to Abuja.
Buda was killed by a mob at Mahuta on June 24, a few days before the Eid-el-Kabir festival, for alleged blasphemy in Sokoto.
The command spokesman, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed this while in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Friday evening.
He explained that the transfer of the case was for further investigation.
He stated, “The case file has been transferred to Abuja, along with all the suspects arrested, for further investigation and possible prosecution.”
Meanwhile, a source in the command confirmed the arrest of at least eight suspects who participated in the murder.
“Before the case was transferred to Abuja two weeks ago, we arrested two suspects and the officers in Abuja later arrested more suspects. I think they arrested about six to seven more suspects,” he added.
