Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Sunday hosted Super Falcons duo Rasheedat Ajibade and Rofiat Imuran in Ede, his hometown, after their outing at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Nigeria exited the tournament last week, after a 4-2 penalty shootout defeat against England in the round of 16.
Both Ajibade and Imuran were among the players who returned to the country after Nigeria’s ouster.
A video of the Governor dancing with the two players first went viral on Sunday before the Osun helmsman tweeted about hosting the two players, who are from the state.
“This morning (on Sunday), I received Osun State-born Nigeria Super Falcons players, Rasheedat aefforts during their time in the tournament and restated our administration’s commitment to the growth of the girl-child and sport development in Osun State,” Adeleke said.
The Governor had earlier put a call through to Ajibade a day before to congratulate her on her appearance for Nigeria and also arrange for the reception.
After missing the opening goalless draw against Canada, Ajibade put in a great shift for the Falcons’ remaining games at the competition. She assisted two goals in the 3-2 win over co-hosts Australia and also scored a penalty in the shootout loss to England.
Imuran, on the other hand, was an unused substitute throughout the tournament.
