A recently evicted Big Brother Naija housemate, Uriel Oputa, has said that though she was interested in another contestant, Neo, she did not ‘push hard’ for him, because she knew he was also close to another housemate, Tolani Baj.
She told Saturday Beats, “I never do anything I cannot handle, and I am never associated with any sort of love triangle (between her, Neo and Pere). If I wanted to have Neo to myself within the time I spent on the show, I would have made it happen. However, I always love to study what goes on around me. I saw that another female housemate— Tolani Baj—had a close relationship with Neo, which was a carryover from her previous interactions with him on the show. That was the only reason I did not push so much for Neo, even though I knew they were not together. Neo had told me that he was single. I wouldn’t put Princess in this equation, because she already has a boyfriend, who is a billionaire.”
Clarifying her relationship with Pere, she said, “My relationship with Pere is based on mutual understanding. Some people feel Pere is a difficult person to understand, but I feel he is actually a sweet and understanding person. He could be a bit strict, and I guess that stems from his military background. He is my friend, but he is good looking, and I respect him a lot. I hope we continue our friendship outside the house.”
She, however, stated that she would not ‘chase’ after Neo outside the house. She said, “I will not chase Neo outside the house. He is aware that I like him, because I had made my intention known to him. I actually initiated our first kiss. If he is smart, which I know he is, he will use his initiative (to take things to the next level). He already promised to take me out to dinner.”
The ex-BBN housemate also stated that she was still yet to come to terms with her eviction. She said, “When I first left the house, I was in a good place, because I did not know what had happened. But, when I knew about the circumstance (eviction jury), I felt it was wrong. My soul is hurt, and it was a bitter pill for me to swallow. I have not even fully accepted my eviction. I felt like I had a lot to give, and I still have a lot to give, regardless of being outside the house now. My story continues, and my body has to be strong for the soul.
“Sometimes, I wish there was a way I could go back into the house. It is like when one writes a story, and one has to hurriedly write the end of it. Yes, I had three weeks to sell myself in the house, but there was so much to me that viewers were yet to see. But, I understand that every show has a format that has to be followed.”
Reacting to her criticism of another evicted housemate, Princess’ accent, Uriel said, “My initial comment about her accent came from a place of shock. I had spoken to her previously, and she did not sound the way she did in the house. I always speak my mind, and that is what I did. However, if anybody wants to reinvent themselves, who am I to tell them otherwise?”
Speaking on her next moves, Uriel said, “Coming out of the house, I know that people like to hear me talk. They love my Igbo-English, my vibe and personality. I am about to start a podcast, and I will be shedding more light on BBN and other issues. I will also be focusing on my kitchen. My voice will definitely be heard.”
