In Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, a portion of the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Ibadan has been completely destroyed by an unidentified fire.
Emergency responders are on the scene attempting to put out the fire, according to information obtained by Gistlover, who learned that the incident occurred on Saturday.
There is no need for concern because the fire incident that affected a portion of the hospital has been put off, according to Professor Abiodun Otegbayo, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director (CMD), in an interview with newsmen.
As soon as the incident began, the authorities notified three different fire services, who immediately mobilized their resources and sped to the scene to put out the fire.
Contrary to some rumors, he said there was no patient trapped in the fire that destroyed a portion of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and one of the theaters.
However, he gave patients’ families and close friends assurance that everything was under control and that services had started as soon as possible through other means.
Similar to this, a residential building at the teaching hospital was completely destroyed by fire in April. No one was killed in the incident, though.
Meanwhile The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, August 21, as a public holiday to mark the 2023 Isese Day celebration.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, made this known in a circular titled, “Declaration of holiday to mark traditional religious festivity in Oyo State.”
The Isese (the Yorùbá word for Tradition) Day celebration, which will take place on Sunday, August 20, is a day set aside to celebrate Yorùbá traditions and religion by displaying culture and spirituality in the form of festivals, parties, exhibitions, and public lectures.
Adeyemo said Governor Seyi Makinde asked traditional worshippers to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity and stability of the state in particular and the country in general.
He disclosed that the declaration followed the resolution of the Oyo State House of Assembly that earmarked August 20 for the celebration of Isese Day.
