There is unrest after a commander of the Livestock Guard was killed by unknown gunmen in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to Gistlover, the government created the Livestock Guards to make sure that the State Anti-open Grazing Law was followed.
An witnesses who spoke with Daily Trust claimed, the killing of Jarule Likita, the ward commander, has caused tension in the neighborhood.
According to the locals, Likita was in charge of the Mbatian ward of the Ukum LGA until he was killed.
Local sources say that the deceased Likita passed away after being shot multiple times in the chest at the Tine-Nune settlement in the state’s Ukum LGA by the assailants.
With Likita’s murder, he is now the fifth ward Livestock commander to have been assassinated in the recent Ukum region by such enigmatic gunmen.
When discussing the situation, the State Commander of the Livestock Guards, Linus Zaki, estimated that four of his soldiers had recently been killed in the region.
He said, “I was just informed that some armed men attacked and killed him (Likita). Today he is the only one that was killed. They have been killing them like that. Three of my men died about two months back. They just come, fire them and go away.
“They call them gunmen, unknown gunmen that is the report reaching me. One went to pick up his wife and was gunned down so also others. I do not know where these gunmen are coming from.”
