Stephen Akpa, an businessman with a base in Abuja, was re-arrested on Monday, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an alleged N500 million fraud.
The commission made this disclosure in a press release from its Media and Publicity division that was published on its website.
The commission claims that Akpa was initially detained on December 2, 2022, at his workplace in Abuja’s Idu neighborhood as a result of a petition charging him with acquiring N500m under fraudulent pretenses.
It was also stated that the suspect skipped the administrative bail set up for him prior to his scheduled arraignment on five counts.
The panel stated that the suspect has now fled after all attempts to apprehend him failed.
The statement read, “Akpa was first arrested by the commission on December 2, 2022, at his office in the Idu axis of Abuja, following a petition alleging that he obtained the sum of N 500, 000, 000 under false pretence.
“He was to be arraigned on a five-count charge when he jumped the administrative bail offered by the commissions
“All efforts to apprehend proved futile until August 9, 2023, when he was re-arrested.
“He will soon be arraigned in court.”
