Nestle Nigeria is one of the largest food and beverage manufacturing corporations in Africa and the world. Not only providing quality nutrition to the populace but altering the narrative to empower Nigerian women, especially rural women traders, to find themselves, establish financial security, and raise their standard of living.
The manufacturing giant has strived to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as gender equality, poverty eradication, and inclusive economic growth for a well-rounded nation. This is so because the company is aware of the additional advantages of supporting the economic empowerment of women.
Nestlé’s women’s empowerment initiative comprises several initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality, supporting women’s professional growth, and enhancing their well-being. Nestlé Empowering Rural Women in Nigeria was established to assist women in growing their enterprises and sustaining a new level of up to three times the size of their existing businesses.
Recently, through its Empowering Rural Women in Nigeria project, Nestlé Nigeria has empowered 282 rural women to increase their financial security and raise their standard of living. Training, mentoring, and grants in the form of Nestlé products are used to accomplish this. Female retailers that are a part of Nestlé Nigeria’s value chain benefit from the programme as well.
Nestlé has provided equal opportunities for women at all levels within the organisation, from entry-level positions to leadership roles, and offers leadership development programmes to help women enhance their skills, confidence, and readiness to take on leadership roles.
It’s also important to emphasise the company’s work-life balance with flexible work arrangements, which is particularly beneficial for women managing both work and family responsibilities.
In fostering an environment where women’s perspectives are valued and their voices are heard, Nestlé has tremendously promoted diversity and inclusion, which has contributed positively to the communities where they operate.
Nestlé also recognises the importance of family bonding and caregiving and, thus, provides maternity and parental leave policies that support new mothers.
