Nigerian sprinter, Alaba Akintola, in his debut at the World Athletics Championships, secured a spot in the Men’s 200m Semi-final with an automatic qualification.
Originally finishing fourth, Akintola moved up to third place after France’s Ryan Zeze was disqualified. Zeze was disqualified for a false start but chose to run under protest.
Oregon 2022 Silver medallist Kenny Bednarek won the race in 20.01s beating Alexander Ogando (20.14s) who came second. Zeze crossed the line 3rd and Alaba 4th (20.54s). However, the Nigerian was awarded the 3rd position as Zeze currently stands disqualified.
Akintola will compete in the semi-finals on Thursday at around 7.20pm Nigerian time.
