In July 2023, OctaFX and the non-profit Keeping It Real (KIR) Foundation launched a project promoting literacy and advancing the cause of education in Nigeria. The parties will set up eight reading corners in several Nigerian states as part of the ‘Book Drive Campaign’. This is one of the four charitable educational projects the broker launched as part of its annual birthday tradition in Nigeria, Malaysia, India, and Indonesia.
For the third year in a row, OctaFX and KIR Foundation will set up eight reading corners, each consisting of a bookshelf and 150 books, in seven Nigerian states and the capital city, Abuja. This year, such corners will be placed in the states of Kano, Kebbi, Enugu, Lagos, Rivers, and Plateau.
‘By setting up reading corners with our long-standing partners, KIR Foundation, we aim to ignite the passion for learning among children who may not have easy access to books and educational materials. This will, we believe, help them take advantage of the most exciting opportunities and career paths in adult life,’ the OctaFX brand ambassador in Nigeria, Ambrose Ebuka, commented.
‘We are very grateful to OctaFX for contributing to this project for the third consecutive year. It holds a special significance for us because, in Nigeria, the lack of access to books and writing materials is the fourth barrier to quality education. Numerous researches, including that of the World Literacy Foundation, indicate that 60% of children in public schools in Nigeria do not have access to books and writing materials, while reading is the foundation for all forms of learning. Our ‘Book Drive Campaign’ provides underserved children with a diverse set of literature on a wide array of topics—giving every child the opportunity to find something interesting to them,’ said the Programmes Officer of KIR Foundation NimiOze.
Apart from the ‘Book Drive Campaign’, OctaFX and KIR Foundation have collaborated on several other projects. In November 2022, the entities provided underserved children in Nigeria with educational supplies as part of the charitable project ‘Back to School’. Earlier in the same year, OctaFX sponsored the ‘Youth Employability Skills’ project, helping train fifty unemployed or underemployed young people with incomplete secondary education. The training provided them with market-relevant skills needed to find jobs in the ICT and related sectors.
