APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, in Ibadan, the state capital, said the primary earlier scheduled for this Thursday, August 24, will now be held, on Friday, August 25, and Monday, August 28, “as occasion demanded that we leave no stone unturned to ensure free, fair and credible exercise.”
Sadare said the primary became necessary as a result of multiple expressions of interest on the part of party faithful who desire to fly the flag of APC in the local government council election which has been slated for April next year by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission.
He added, “The schedule of the party primary will now be split into two and we have picked this Friday to conduct the exercise in all the Wards and LGAs in both Oyo Central and Oyo North Senatorial districts while the turn of the 99 Wards and nine local government councils in Oyo South will be Monday next week.
“Reports submitted by the screening committees established that we have competent aspirants in all the 351 wards and 33 LGAs as this indicates that APC remains the most popular party in the state.
“As earlier announced, we are adopting the direct primary option to accommodate all registered party members in the decision to field candidates and there shall be no compromise.
“On the day of the primary, delegates are expected to gather at the designated venue in each ward and undertake the accreditation process which shall be followed by a headcount of delegates found on the queue behind each aspirant or their recognised agent whole the aspirant with the simple majority would be declared the winner by the relevant official deployed for the exercise by the party,” Sadare stated.
