Babaita disclosed this in Ilorin while addressing officers of the Force and other security agencies including vigilantes, hunters and Fulani leaders during a two-day working visit to the state.
He said the safety of schools and educational institutions is of concern to the police.
“In addition, the recent introduction of the Safer School Programme which will soon take off will be of immense assistance in protecting our schools both the elementary and the tertiary schools across the country.
“The safety of schools and educational institutions is of key concern to the police, which will continue to use all available human and material resources to mitigate the heightened danger students, staff and educational facilities/institutions are exposed to in the country in recent
times.
“In order to have a more focused and robust response to the existing challenge of constant attacks on educational institutions, culminating in the abduction of students, the police have marshalled an action plan and designed a couple of strategies (both kinetic and non-kinetic) to prevent or check such incidences from being a recurrent challenge in our polity.
“Consequently, the Nigeria Police, under the leadership of the IG, Kayode Egbetokun, has set up a special squad – Schools Protection Squad to serve as an intervention unit to curb the menace.
“The squad is expected to commence operations in every part of the country,” he said.
Babaita added that the police would use all available human and material resources to mitigate the heightened danger students and staff of educational institutions are exposed to in the country.
While urging officers of the Force to discharge their duties in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, he maintained that a technology-driven approach would be adopted to ensure the success of the programme.
