The Kano State Government said it would require six million doses of vaccines for massive immunisation to combat the outbreak of diphtheria across the 44 local government areas of the state.
This is contained in a statement by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Shuaibu, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the governor, Abba Yusuf, made the disclosure during a meeting with the representatives of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The statement said the Kano State Government at the meeting reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening the 11-year-old partnership between the Kano State Government and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
According to the statement, the Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, received the Foundation’s delegation on the governor’s behalf where he stressed the state’s determination to improve healthcare across all levels.
“We want to assure you that the state government is committed to improving healthcare at all levels in the state,” the Deputy Governor was quoted to have said.
Gwarzo also expressed gratitude to the foundation for its support in the health sector and expressed interest in the foundation’s involvement in areas like agriculture and digital finance.
Earlier the leader of the foundation’s Nigerian delegation, Mr Jerremy Zungurana, lauded the enduring partnership and applauded the state’s efforts in healthcare development.
He further promised sustainable assistance for the state’s initiatives as requested by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf.
