The programme will save the schools and the students from unnecessary exposure to bandits and kidnappers in every part of the country.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 8 comprising of Kwara and Kogi state, Alhaji Ishola Babaita disclosed this in Ilorin, Kwara state while addressing men and officers of Nigeria Police as well as other stakeholders including vigilantes, hunters and Fulani leaders during a two-day working visit to the state.
“In order to have a more focused and robust response to the existing challenge of constant attacks on educational institutions, culminating in the abduction of students, the Police has marshalled an action plan and designed a couple of strategies (both kinetic and non-kinetic) to prevent or checkmate such incidences from being a recurrent challenge in our polity.
“Consequently, the Nigeria Police, under the leadership of the Ag. IGP Kayode Egbetokun has set up a special squad to be known as the Schools Protection Squad (SPS) that will serve as an intervention unit to curb the menace.
“The Squad is expected to commence operation in every part of the country. All hands must be on deck,” he said.
Earlier in her welcome address the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi said the adoption of a community policing strategy has been yielding positive results.
