Watford winger, Samuel Kalu, is reportedly free to leave the club this summer, having been deemed surplus to requirement under new coach Valerien Ismael.
The 25-year-old, who has two years left on his deal with the Hornets, has consistently struggled for form and fitness since making the £3.5m move from Bordeaux to the Vicarage Road in January 2022.
According to a report in Football League World, injuries that hampered his pre-season were a major reason the coach snubbed him following their shaky start to the English Championship season, with the club winning one, losing one and drawing one, so far.
“Ultimately, Kalu has not got the better of injuries lately,” the report said.
“The Nigerian has been a disastrous signing for the Hornets since his arrival at the club.
“He (Kalu) has trained with the squad this summer, but with yet further injuries hampering his pre-season and now Ismael has now confirmed that the Nigerian is not a part of his plans for the season.”
Watford reportedly splashed £3.5m on Kalu in January 2022, when they were in real trouble in the Premier League, but he couldn’t help the club avoid the drop from the Premier League, featuring in just four games.
Despite their relegation, Kalu remained at the club and featured nine times in 2021/22, showing bright sparks in some substitute cameos during the campaign.
The Nigerian started his European football career in the Slovakian league, before moving to Gent and then onto Bordeaux.
His career has seen him play in both the Champions League and Europa League, as well as in the African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers with the Super Eagles.
