Nigeria’s top badminton player, Anuoluwa Opeyori, is confident of reaching the last four of the ongoing Lagos Badminton Classics at the Teslim Balogun stadium, The PUNCH reports.
Opeyemi came from a set down to beat countryman Victor Ikechukwu 2-1 in a round of 32 clash on Thursday.
He won the game 17-21, 21-15, 21-17 and will face Simi Romdhani from UAE in the quarter-finals.
Speaking with The PUNCH, Opeyemi admitted that his round of 32 clash was a tough duel.
He said, “The round of 32 game was a tough duel for me. I had to come from a set down to beat my opponent. It was sweet victory for Nigeria as four our country as well. “I feel very happy to have won again and I am also happy I’m getting closer to winning the tournament. “The most important thing, for now, is to stay focused on qualifying for the Paris Olympics 2024 and represent Nigeria well at the event.”
Godwin Olofua, winner of the men’s singles title at the African Games in Morocco in 2019, is also through to the last 16of the championship.
