An 18-year-old man, Wahab Hassan and 27-year-old Abubakar Suleiman were on Tuesday arraigned before a Sagamu Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for stealing cosmetics and other items from a supermarket.
They were said to have committed the offence on Sunday in Badore, Shimawa.
While Hassan was accused of stealing groceries valued at N1,600, Suleiman was arraigned for stealing cosmetics valued at N21,900.
The charges against the defendants read in part, “That you, Abubakar Suleiman and Wahab Hassan, on August 27, 2023, around 8.30 am at Emmy’s Mart supermarket, Badore, Simawa in the Sagamu Magisterial District did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.”
The suspects pleaded guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, Toba Oreagba, pleaded with the court to give the defendants a second chance to amend their ways.
“These defendants have helped the court and everyone and we should not make them regret being ready to be new persons and we should help them to be new persons,” Oreagba said.
The Magistrate, Omolara Osanyin, adjourned the case till August 31, 2023.
