Correct Score Liverpool vs Aston Villa Predictions
Both sides have issues at the back going into this game so may see attack as the best form of defence. With this fixture also having a history of goals.
Only Brighton have scored more than Villa’s eight goals so far while only Luton have conceded more than their six.
With plenty of in-form forwards on show I am opening these predictions with a selection at big odds. A 3-2 win for Liverpool is available at 16/1 with BetKing.
1×2 Predictions
Liverpool posted a statement come-from-behind victory at Newcastle last weekend. Jürgen Klopp hailed it as a better performance than the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.
Villa have bounced back well from their own opening weekend hammering at the same venue. But this represents a similar style test and although I don’t think we will see a repeat of the 5-1 scoreline we saw at St. James’ Park I do believe we will see another home win. So I am siding with the favourite in the 1X2 market.
Draw No Bet Predictions
Looking across all the betting sites there appears no value in the Draw No Bet market given Liverpool are the hot favourite to win this one. Although I think it will be close I can’t take Aston Villa to win at Anfield so backing them in this market makes little appeal either.
BTTS Predictions
Liverpool have looked shaky at the back for some time now. Despite winning both their last two fixtures they have had to do so after conceding the opening goal.
The Reds pre-season games were full of goals with both teams scoring in four of their five warm up fixtures. That trend has continued in all three outings at the start of the new campaign.
No side have seen more goals scored in their Premier League than the 14 in Aston Villa’s three matches so far this term. They also hit five in their Europa Conference League qualifier at Hibernian.
This fixture also has a history of goals. The last seven meetings in all competitions have seen a mighty 27 goals with both teams scoring in six of those.
Both teams scoring here is the most confident of all my tips.
Our Analysis of the Liverpool vs Aston Villa Match
Liverpool’s defensive issues have been increased following captain Virgil van Dijk’s red card at Newcastle last weekend. His one game suspension may be increased to two following a charge of improper conduct but what is certain is he will not be available for this clash.
Jürgen Klopp’s side seem back to their chaotic best after a fairly standard draw at Chelsea on the opening weekend. His side have now fallen behind and had a player sent off before claiming two wins. All of which leaves the Reds just two points behind leaders Manchester City.
The men from Merseyside will fancy their chances against anyone given their fearsome frontline. Mo Salah is off the mark for the season with a goal but it is his two assists that really catch the eye. Livewire Luis Diaz is back from injury and must feel like a new signing while Darwin Núñez was the match saviour and winner last weekend when firing in both goals after coming off the bench.
Defensively however they look error prone and this Villa side can certainly take advantage of that.
Unai Emery has seen his side bounce back from that opening day 5-1 mauling at Newcastle in some style. Balancing their goal difference immediately with a dominant 4-0 beating of Everton before an impressive win at Burnley last weekend.
Only Manchester City (10) and Arsenal (9) have won more Premier League away games than the Villains since the Spaniard took charge in November. He also ended a run of four successive defeats at Anfield for the club with a 1-1 draw here in May.
Top Scorers Predictions for Liverpool vs Aston Villa
Darwin Núñez stole the headlines last weekend coming off the bench to bag both goals in his side’s comeback victory. It will be interesting to see if Jürgen Klopp can resist the temptation to start the Uruguayan at Anfield.
Aston Villa had a double goalscorer last weekend too. In the unlikely shape of Matty Cash who was playing a more advanced role than is accustomed. One to keep an eye on if he keeps that spot at Anfield.
However it is Luis Diaz that gets my vote to get on the scoresheet this Sunday. The Colombian scored in both the opening two fixtures of the season and this represents a great opportunity to add to that tally.
What has caught the eye is the area the 26-year-old scored those two goals from. Both came from around the penalty spot and he had other chances from similar positions too.
As much as Diaz impressed in his first season in England a lot of his efforts at goal came from outside the area. If he has added those well timed runs from the left side into the box to his game he is sure to score a lot of goals this season.
Reds to edge entertaining clash
Liverpool ended last season well and have continued that form into the new campaign. Victory at Newcastle extended their unbeaten run to 14 games. This clash has the makings of being something of a shootout and therefore the extra quality in forward areas the home side possess can make the difference.
Last results of the teams
Liverpool opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw at Chelsea. Their only home game so far saw a come-from-behind 3-1 defeat of Bournemoth. Similar tenacity was needed in recovering to beat Newcastle 2-1 last time out.
Villa’s season could not have got off to a worse start in being thumped 5-1 by Newcastle. However two convincing wins by 4-0 against Everton and 3-1 at Burnley have Unai Emery’s men back on track.
