The Social Democratic Party governorship candidate for Ogun State during the 2023 elections, Anthony Ojeshina, hailed the suspended Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Hon Wale Adedayo describing him as a very courageous and patriotic democrat who wanted the best for his people.
Ojeshina, also a former Commissioner in the state disclosed this over the weekend while speaking on the travails of Adedayo since his widely reported allegations of diversion of local government funds of about N10.8bn against Governor Dapo Abiodun.
In a statement sent to our correspondent, the former SDP governorship candidate said rather than being sobered and making amendments where necessary, Abiodun has chosen to use the security agencies to harass and intimidate the former LG boss leading to his suspension from office by seven councilors on Wednesday.
Ojeshina, however, called on President Bola Tinubu as well as other stakeholders to rally around and save the state from what he alleged as the “iron fist” of Abiodun saying that “Ogun, a state known for its high political sophistry, should not be allowed to descend into a banana republic”.
He added that the governor should, however, be told in unmistakable terms that “no amount of bullying by security agencies and political thuggery would ever make the issue of the rape of local government in the state be wished away, the residents of the state should expect proper forensic investigation on what has transpired on the state statutory allocation in the last two years.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Tunde Oladunjoye, said on Sunday that Ojeshina cannot be taken seriously.
He said, “Ojeshina is supposedly a man of God. However, he sold his soul by collecting N150m from Ladi Adebutu to endorse Adebutu and sacrificed the aspirations of SDP members. The SDP Chairman was hospitalised in Lagos for weeks over the treachery of Ojeshina, who only parted with N10m to party members out of the huge sum of money he collected. Either he is still working for the money or he needs another tranche. Please do not take him seriously. He is obviously working for Adebutu’s PDP.”
