Caykur Rizespor midfielder, Ibrahim Olawoyin, believes the international break will not halt the winning mentality of the newly promoted side after they recorded their first home win and second consecutive win of the season during the weekend, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Playing at their home ground, the Çaykur Didi Stadium on Friday, Rizespor made it two wins in a row by beating Fatih Karagumruk 1-0 courtesy of Dal Varesañovic’s 45th-minute strike.
The midfielder made a vital block off a corner kick by the visitors as the resulting counter attack was finished off by Varesañovic.
“We thank our fans for the huge support. Great to record our first win at home. We hope to sustain the momentum after the international break,” the player said.
Rizespor endured a tough start to life in the first division, losing their first game against Adana Demirspor before drawing their first game at home against Alanyaspor. They however recorded a massive 3-2 win over Trabzonspor in a derby last weekend before following it up with their latest win over Karagumruk.
The former Super Eagles B player has played all four games for the club so far this season as they sit fifth on the table with seven points.
Olawoyin joined Rizespor in January from Ankara Ankara Keçiörengücü’nden and helped them gain promotion to the Super Lig. He scored four goals and seven assists in 17 appearances for his former club.
Çaykur Rizespor will face Konyaspor in their next Super Lig game after the international break, on Sunday, September 17, 2023.
