Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe is looking forward to winning another piece of silverware in Portugal after helping her Benfica Women reach the final of the Portuguese Women’s Super Cup on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Ucheibe was a standout performer for Benfica Women as they defeated Sporting Braga Women on penalties in the first semi-final of the competition, to book another date in the final. The combative midfielder sealed victory for her side with the decisive penalty, propelling them into the final of the Super Cup after a thrilling 3-3 draw in regular time.
The spotlight shone brightly on Ucheibe as she coolly netted the final and ultimately winning penalty for her team, cementing their place in the Super Cup final.
“Pikin wey get God no need evidence (a child of God doesn’t need evidence). Onto the final let’s go Benfica,” she wrote on Twitter.
Benfica will lock horns with Sporting CP who beat Famalicão in the second semi-final. The final will be played on September 13 and the Nigerian will hope to add the cup crown to the growing list of titles with Benfica.
During the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Ucheibe played a pivotal role for the Super Falcons before they were knocked out by England in the round of 16.
Her impressive performances earned her recognition as one of Nigeria’s finest players in the tournament as well as being ranked fourth among the top seven tacklers at the showpiece.
Since joining Benfica in 2020, the 22-year-old has won seven titles.
