Residents of Tage village in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State have resisted a gang of armed robbers operating on Hadejia highway.
The resistance by the members of the community led to the arrest of one of the hoodlums while others took to their heels.
An eyewitness, who spoke to newsmen on Wednesday, disclosed that the community members inflicted serious machete cut injuries on one of the robbers.
Confirming the incident, the Jigawa State Police spokesman, Lawan Adam, said the police received information that a gang of armed robbers blocked Tage to the Hadejia highway and robbed people of their belongings.
Adam explained that policemen were mobilised to the scene “and found that a group of people gathered and faced the hoodlums, and as a result, they inflicted serious machete cuts on one of the robbers by name Abdullahi Abubakar of Hago village.”
The spokesperson said the police saved the wounded robber and took him to the General Hospital, Kafin Hausa, for treatment.
He said life ammunition, one expended cartridge, and the sum of N37,000.00 were recovered from the suspect.
Adam equally assured that an inquiry was going on to arrest the other fleeing suspects.
