Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq presented a cheque for N5m to the family of LCpl Goselle Nanpon, a Nigerian Air Force officer who was killed during an operation early this year.
The governor had earlier in January sent a condolence message to the Air Force authorities in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye in Ilorin.
The governor said that the late Nanpon was a gallant NAF officer whose life was cut short by a truck after it lost control in Ilorin.
A Thursday statement by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Government House, Ilorin, Mashood Agboola, said that at a brief presentation ceremony at the 303 Medium Airlift Group, Nigerian Air Force, Ilorin, the governor said the gesture was to provide succour to the immediate family of the deceased, whose pain he noted cannot be quantified.
AbdulRazaq, who was represented at the event on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Security, Alhaji Muyideen Aliu, said his death represents a huge loss to the country as a whole and Kwara State in particular.
The governor encouraged the bereaved family to take solace in the fact that the late Nanpon led a worthwhile life.
Responding, the Commander of the 303 Medium Airlift Group, Nigerian Air Force, Captain Dan Apyeyak, said, “I want to thank His Excellency most sincerely for always remembering us.
“Today, he has further shown us that he is ready to support us in any way, especially with the presentation of the cheque for N5m to the next of kin of our personnel who died in active service.”
The younger brother and next of kin to the late officer, Nantip Goselle, received the cheque on behalf of the family.
