Zambia zooming through
Comoros sit third in a tough group that includes Cote d’Ivoire and Zambia. The Coelacanths have picked up six points from five due to a double over Lesotho.
They will, however, have to wait to qualify for their second-ever AFCON, as they are trailing the second-place Ivorians by four points.
Amir Abdou’s side defied expectations by qualifying for their first-ever AFCON in 2021, and a shock victory over Ghana saw the Comoros advance to the knockout stage as one of the highest-ranked third-placed teams. Their longshot hopes of winning the AFCON were cut short in a knockout defeat to Cameroon.
Zambia are at the top of the group with 12 points from five after a shock 3-0 victory over Cote d’Ivoire. A first-half Serge Aurier own goal saw Zambia go into the break 1-0 up before second-half goals from Patson Daka and Kings Kangwa saw the Copper Bullets emerge victorious and move to the top of the group.
Zambia are regulars at AFCON and are entering their 13th competition after winning it in 2012. With Patson Daka, Fashion Sakala, and Lameck Banda to call upon in attack, the Zambians are a force to be reckoned with.
Avram Grant’s side should have enough to beat a Comoros side that sits 46 places behind them in the world rankings.

Daka the dagger in front of Goal
Zambia’s star man is undeniably Patson Daka, who has scored 12 goals in 35 national team appearances and four goals in the qualifying campaign thus far, including three in the last two. The 24-year-old may have lost his prolific touch since his £23 million move to Leicester City, but the talisman has been clinical throughout his career.
Daka scored 54 goals in 82 league appearances for RB Salzburg in Austria and has 12 in 35 for Zambia. In his last two seasons at Salzburg, the talented striker scored 51 goals in 59 league appearances.
With rumours suggesting Daka is unhappy at the Foxes and is vying for a move away. He will see the AFCON qualification as the perfect chance to showcase his undeniable attacking ability.
22-year-old winger Lameck Banda has shone in his three appearances for Lecce this season, with two assists in three games. With Banda and Fashion Sakala supporting Daka in attack, he should get plenty of opportunities to find the net.

Goals to flow in Moroni
So far in AFCON qualifying, the Comoros have scored five goals and conceded seven in five games. While GG has only landed in ⅖ games, they’ve scored in every game, bar a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast. The other games where GG has not landed were the victories over Lesotho, a country 151st in the world ranking with only one goal in qualifying.
Zambia have scored 11 and conceded five in their five games so far, keeping a clean sheet in the 3-0 victory over Ivory Coast, where they were perhaps lucky to not concede. Zambia also kept a clean sheet against lowly Lesotho.
GG has landed in the last three meetings, with Zambia claiming a 2-1 victory each time, while the meeting before this in 2010 saw a 4-0 Zambia win. With a passionate home crowd supporting Comoros and with nothing to lose, we can see goals flowing at the stadium.
