Eight persons have died after a boat capsized at Njuwa Lake, Rugange village, in the Yola South Local Government Area of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the incident occurred on Friday night.
Eight persons were said to have been rescued and seven others still missing after the driver of the ill-fated boat lost control due to bad weather.
The Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Suleiman Muhammad, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday
Muhammad said, “So far, we have recovered eight dead bodies. We have rescued eight persons and we are still searching for about seven others.
“Their boat capsized due to bad weather. There was a thunderstorm actually about the time they got on the boat.”
According to him, the agency is still working to identify all crossing points in the state to provide live jackets for passengers as directed by the state Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta.
