The Nigeria Labour Congress in Ekiti State has urged Governor Biodun Oyebanji to extend shuttle buses targeted at cushioning the effect of fuel subsidy removal to other categories of workers.
The available shuttle buses in the state have been for the workers at the state secretariat.
But the NLC state chairman, Kolapo Olatunde, told Sunday PUNCH in a chat that other workers deserved the buses.
He added, “We can give kudos to Ekiti State Government, at least we have seen it doing something. Buses are outside taking people to the state secretariat, but all workers don’t work in the secretariat. People work in the hospital, university and other places. Those people too should be considered.
“The state government has equally given food items to some people, this has not been given to workers. Some amount has been given to the poorest of the poor, l hope it will be on a monthly basis for like six months and 10,000 elderly persons have been attached to the health insurance scheme programme to receive treatments.”
Meanwhile, the governor has urged the police in the state to be proactive and engage more in intelligence gathering and community policing, rather than allowing criminals to perpetrate their heinous crime before rising to the situation.
Oyebanji, who said that the security challenges facing Nigeria were enormous, however, commended men of the command for maintaining a peaceful and safe atmosphere in the state.
The governor spoke in Ado Ekiti on Friday evening while presenting two Armoured Personnel Carriers, 10 operational vehicles and other security equipment and gadgets to the state command to improve and strengthen the security architecture of the state.
Oyebanji said a similar gesture would be extended to other security outfits in the state, stressing that the Friday presentation of vehicles was the first in the series of other plans to support and elevate operations of security agencies in the state.
