Gent forward Gift Orban was ruled out of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday after the forward picked up an injury in training on Friday.
The 21-year-old then missed the team’s last training session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Saturday night meaning he had to watch the game from the sideline.
Orban was one of the three debutants invited for the last game of their qualifiers alongside Victor Boniface and Jordan Torunarigha.
The forward has enjoyed a bright start to the new season scoring six goals in nine appearances for his Belgian club but will now have to wait to make his debut for the three-time African champions.
Orban was not the only player made to wait for his Eagles debut as Torunarigha was not called into action as the Eagles beat the Selecao 6-0 at the Nest of Champions in Uyo.
The defender sat on the bench for the entire 90 minutes as Jose Peseiro preferred Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey at the heart of the defence while Ola Aina and Onyaemechi Bruno started as full-backs.
