An indigenous oil and gas exploration and production company, Famfa Oil, says it has partnered with a not-for-profit organisation, Slum2school, to empower 300 underprivileged children in Sabo-Koji, a riverine community, in Lagos State.
The Head of Operations at Famfa Oil, Mr Femi Adejumo, disclosed this in Lagos during an event to commemorate the International Literacy Day held on September 8, according to a statement made available to the Saturday PUNCH on Friday.
Adejumo, who was represented at the event by Yemi Atolagbe, said the initiative was organised to meet the educational needs of the children, aged between five and 13.
He stated, “Today, as we gather here with these young learners, we are reminded that there is no better way of sowing the seeds of change than through education. So, as we celebrate International Literacy Day, let us all remember that the ability to read and write is not just a privilege; it is a fundamental right.
“It is a right that we, as responsible corporate citizens, are committed to upholding and promoting. It is a right that we are working tirelessly to extend to those who need it most.
“This heartwarming event serves as an opportunity to reiterate our unwavering commitment to education at all levels because we believe that literacy is not merely a skill but the master key that unlocks a world brimming with opportunities.”
