The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Audi, disclosed this during the conclusion of the 5-Day Capacity Development Training for the Safe School Response Team in Nigeria at IBB Square in Makurdi, Benue State.
Audi said the corps has recorded progress in the effort to enhance capacity in preventing kidnappings of school children.
He charged participants of the training program in the North Centre states to demonstrate a high level of professionalism in executing their responsibilities.
Audi described the Safe School Response Project which is targeted at providing security schools to enhance learning as the first of its kind in Africa.
He commended the coordinator, Tersoo Shaapera for providing quality leadership which led to the successful take-off and implementation of the project.
He said, “siting the project in Benue state is also strategic because of the sustained farmer’s headers clash, and continued attacks by hoodlums on school facilities.”
On his part, the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion said the initiative underscores the importance of collaboration and proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of our educational institutions.
Alia, who donated office accommodation for the project said, “The Safe School Initiative, which is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education, Civil Society Organisations, and security agencies, represents a beacon of hope for our educational institutions.
“I have for long associated myself with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and I am very much satisfied with the key roles they have played in addressing the security challenges of the state, and I will continue with the collaboration.”
The Safe Response Team comprises members from Civil Defence, DSS, Vigilante Group, Private Security Guards, and the Police.
