The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has threatened to re-award the contract for the reconstruction of Amanwozuzu-Umuomi-Orie Amakohia in Imo State if the contractor fails to adhere to design specificatons.
He said the move was based on negligence and incompetence, adding that over N7tn would be needed for the reconstruction of Trunk “A” roads in the South-East.
The minister, who made this pronouncement while inspecting some of the federal roads in the state recently, directed the contractor, Vicphranc Nigeria Limited to redesign the contract with concrete.
Umahi said, “The contract will be redesigned with concrete and awarded to another contractor. The contract will only continue unless the contractor handling the road has another contractor that will work on the new concrete design.”
He said some of the federal roads in the state had cut off access to some communities, adding, “Many people have lost contact with their fellow community people due to erosion, rivers and other environmental factors, hence the need for the reconstruction.”
