President Bola Tinubu has appointed Northern Elders Forum’s secretary, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, as a special adviser on political matters to Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Mr. Baba-Ahmed announced his appointment in the Hausa language in a Facebook post on Monday. “I have accepted the position,” he said.
“This is the time to go through the reform process, not looking forward to accusations,” the NEF secretary continued. I’m requesting prayers for success.”
Mr. Baba-Ahmed is Datti Baba-Ahmed’s older brother and the Labour Party’s vice presidential candidate in the election on February 25. His selection coincides with a legal dispute over Mr. Tinubu’s victory.
By rejecting all petitions from rival candidates, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal maintained Mr. Tinubu’s victory.
However, PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Peter of the Labour Party have proceeded to challenge Mr Tinubu’s victory at the apex court.
