A section of the road linking the Ikotun roundabout to Ejigbo and other neighbouring communities in Lagos State has collapsed.
Following the storm on Saturday, September 16, GISTLOVER discovered that the road next to a canal caved in.
Since the damage, drivers on the road have been living in constant fear of an impending accident caused by the section’s complete collapse.
The extent of the damage had rendered the road nearly impassable, as our correspondent who visited the neighborhood on Tuesday discovered.
As they alternated in the only available lane due to the damage, drivers on the route could be seen cramming into it.
The road was in better condition prior to the canal’s erosion beginning to harm it, according to a resident who only went by the name Ayoola. For years, the harm has been occurring.
In addition, because the roads were constructed over a canal, they were not properly maintained. It also wouldn’t have gotten to this point if the maintenance had been done. As a result, as the rainy season progressed, it suffered more damage, which eventually caused it to collapse. “
Idowu Sanusi, a different resident, claimed that the road had gone unattended despite numerous complaints being made to the government on both the local and state levels.
The community had been experiencing traffic jams as a result of the collapsed road, particularly during the morning rush.
When questioned about the circumstance, Shina Odunuga, the director of media and publicity for the Lagos Ministry of Works, denied any knowledge of it.
