Justice Dairus Khobo of the Kaduna High Court on Thursday sentenced 19-year-old Peterson Enoch to 12 months in prison for offenses that had some resemblance to internet fraud.
The state Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission hauled the convict, a resident of Millennium City, Kaduna, before the court.
Khobo determined that the defendant was guilty of the charge brought against him. The judge gave Enoch a 12-month prison term with the possibility of a N100,000 fine.
In addition, he mandated that the Federal Government receive the iPhone 12 and Infinix S5 phone that were seized from the offender during the arrest and return $1,000 to Kingsley Matthew, his victim.
The EFCC Counsel, P. C. Onyeneho said Enoch was one of the suspects detained at Malali in Kaduna on August 25 as a result of useful information regarding the activities of people thought to be fraudsters.
“Upon arrest, one iPhone 12 and Infinix S5 phone were recovered from Enoch and when the phone was analysed, several fraudulent documents were printed from his emails.
“Checks on his profile revealed that Enoch had impersonated one Sandra James and swindled the complainant of $1,000 using fictitious emails,” the prosecutor added.
The defendant had pleaded guilty to the charge.
