The training falls under Environmental Beautification Training Scheme within the Special Public Works department.
During the flag off programme held in Abeokuta the state capital, the NDE Director-General, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo, said the training was developed as part of the effort of the agency to empower unemployed persons through acquisition of professional skills in environmental beautification, sanitation and protection.
Fikpo, who was represented by Ogun State Acting State Coordinator, Ajoke Oshinowo said the scheme comprises of Hard Landscaping, Soft Landscaping, Horticulture, Tilling and use of Plaster of Paris.
He said each skill area will be anchored by different experienced resource persons in order to ensure their proficiency at the end of the training period.
Congratulating the participants for being selected for the training, the DG said the programme which is aimed at making them to become self reliant and employers of labour.
He said, “this training scheme is a step in the right direction, as it equips individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a positive impact in the country. It is also about instilling a sense of responsibility and self dependence in each participant.
“You are to seize this opportunity with enthusiasm and dedication. You have been chosen to be a part of this training scheme because of your potential to make a difference. Embrace the knowledge and skills you acquire, and let them empower you to become the change agents our country desperately needs.”
The Director of the SPW Department, Mrs. Olaomi Roseline, who was represented by the Ogun State HOD of SPW department Mr. Adeyemi Ariyo called on beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity rather than wait for white collar jobs.
He urged the participants to pay attention to their trainer during the training exercise.
