According to information gathered by PUNCH Metro, the hoodlums entered the community late Tuesday night, shooting sporadically, while pandemonium ensued making residents run helter-skelter.
Sources in the area revealed that the gunmen stormed the community at about 10:00 pm when some of the residents were outside their house corridors, adding that the residents ran for their lives when the attackers decided to attack the houses one after another.
“One girl, Semiat Mukaila, was shot in the arm, while Abdullahi Awe’s leg was broken with a gun butt. They are both receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital now. The hoodlums also shot Isiaq Abdullahi in the arm.
“After they shot another resident identified as Abdul Rasheed Alafara, on the leg and he tried to escape from the scene, the attackers pursued him and attacked him with a machete until he died.
“The members of the vigilante team also succeeded in killing one of the suspected kidnappers while others escaped into the forest. They did not succeed in taking away anyone from the community,” an eyewitness said.
Reports also had it that the gunmen, numbering about six, rained bullets for more than 30 minutes when they entered the community, and that members of the local vigilante team were able to gun down one of the hoodlums while others ran away.
The source in the area gave kudos for the bravery of the men of the local vigilante team, appealing to concerned authorities to provide them with adequate ammunition to combat insurgents.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Okasanmi Ajayi, who confirmed the report, said that the police command had drafted its men to the scene since 1:00 am when it got the report.
“A team of policemen are already at the scene. Details later please”, the PPRO said in a terse statement.
